DNA Dog Show

DNA Dog Show

The students in Mrs. Busler’s and Miss Miller’s science classes created DNA dogs as a culminating activity by randomly choosing 8 different traits. The students then created their dogs to show the 8 traits with different materials. The students created posters and three dimensional dogs that included their dogs’ traits. Many creative dogs were created and the students were very proud of their creations. This activity reinforced the concepts taught in the unit on heredity and showed that even with just 8 traits, organisms are very unique and yet share many characteristics. The students also wrote about a mutation that could be beneficial to their dogs. We shared all the dogs and their mutations with a DNA dog show and awards were voted on by the students for best mutation, most creative, and best in show.
