November is here and it is time for the first report cards to come home. It is also time for the parent teacher conferences.
In order to prepare for the a successful conference with your child's teacher,it has been suggested that you should follow this criteria to get the most out of the conference.1. Talk to your child before the conference. Ask your child what he thinks the teacher will say about him. If your child can give you insite about the things that the teacher may say, then you can be prepared to address these issues at the conference. 2. Ask questions. Bring a list of questions with you regarding your child's academic and social issues. Ask the teacher about her philosophy. Examples of questions may be....
1. What are my child's strongest and weakest subjects?
2. What can I do at home to extend my
child's learning?
3. How well does my child get along with
classmates?
4. How is my child evaluated?
5. If he is excelling, how can you challenge him?
6. If he is falling behind, how can you support him?
7. What is the homework policy?3. Share information about your child. Share samples of his work, even samples from the previous year. The more information that the teacher has about your child the better they can successfully meet his needs. 4. Raise issues of concern. Plan ahead inorder to do this tactfully. Listen to what the teacher has to say and develop a plan to work together to find a solution. 5. Take notes. This will help you remember what was said at the conference. Review your notes and if something is unclear schedule a follow up meeting with the teacher to clarify the concerns. 6. Make the most of your time. Try not to bring siblings to the conference. They can cause distractions. We all look forward to seeing you at the conferences.
