Mrs. Hoffman's Kinderstars

February is here already! It will be a short, but very busy month for us. We will be busy learning about Groundhog Day, Presidents' Day, Valentine's Day, Dental Health, Black History, and celebrating our 100th day of school. We have already begun predicting if Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow or not. We are very excited to see what he predicts for the weather. Our class is hoping for an early Spring! On February 13th we will be celebrating our 100th day of school. To make the day even more exciting, I am asking that each child wear or bring in 100 of something. Whatever you choose needs to be 100 of the same thing. We will be exchanging Valentine Cards on February 14th. The students will be making fun Valentine bags to collect all the cards and gifts that are exchanged. I will be sending a list of the students' names home so that the children can begin writing out their valentines. Also this month, we will be discussing famous African Americans and two of our greatest presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We will be reading stories about these famous Americans to help us understand all the important things they did and their great accomplishments. In reading, we have already learned 21 popcorn words! Please continue to practice ALL of these words every night. We are also working hard on blending letters to make words. Continue to read the little books that are sent home. Writing continues to be a huge focus this year. The students are really applying the skills they are learning and are always trying to make their writing better! We have been practicing identifying nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Now the students are writing their very own “fancy” sentences using different parts of speech. I am so proud of the creative writing they are doing. In math, we will be finishing up our unit on measurement. We will begin working on addition and subtraction. Please continue to practice identifying and writing numbers and counting to 40. Our star student program continues to bring us fun and exciting activities in our classroom. The children are enjoying learning about their classmates and having visitors come to our classroom. Thank you to Mrs. Morgan for reading a silly book to us about cows that type and Mr. McGinley for reading a rhyming book to us and sharing a special treat! Don’t forget to turn in your January calendars for the "Be a Phanatic About Reading Program." I am so proud of the students who continue to meet each monthly goal. You're all doing a great job! Keep up the MAGNIFICENT work! Please continue to complete the weekly homework packets. All homework is due on Friday. Also, continue to check the BEAR folder nightly for important notices. All folders should be emptied nightly and sent back to school each day. Thank you again for all your support. If you have any questions or concerns at any time, please feel free to contact me via letter, email, or phone.
