The March Winds
Hang onto your hat
Whoever you are,
Or the wild March
wind will blow
It far!
March is a busy month in the Resource Center. We will be celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday and Read Across America the first week of this month. Later in the month we will have a coloring contest and craft for St. Patrick's Day. The first graders have been working hard and have started unit four in reading. The children will learn to decode and read words with long vowels, compound words, contractions and r- controlled words. Comprehension skills will include compare and contrast, draw conclusions and sequence events. They will continue learning many new sight words this month. Please practice reading vocabulary and spelling words each night. Reading aloud with your child is one of the best ways to create a love of reading in your child. Read with your child nightly even if it is only for ten minutes.
In Math we will begin Chapter 7. The students will learn to use place value to 100. They will learn to read, write and compare numbers to 100. Please continue to practice math facts at home. The second graders will be learning many new skills this month such as, sequencing, making inferences, drawing conclusions, and identify cause and effect. We will continue to add to our sight word vocabulary. The children will continue to learn to decode and read words with long vowels, dipthongs, compound words and words with comparative endings. Parents can help by reviewing vocabulary and spelling words daily. We are beginning to work in Chapter 7 in mathematics which will focus on telling time to the hour, half hour, quarter hour and build a better understanding of time. Please have your child practice telling time with an analog clock at home. We will continue to develop and apply problem solving skills. Please continue to review math facts at home.
Please check to see what your child has for homework and sign the assignment book daily. Check their folder. Looking over your child's schoolwork gives you an oppportunity to learn what is happening in school and to spend some quality time with your child. Going over schoolwork with your child demonstrates that you think school is important and that you value your child's efforts at school. Working together we can help your child reach their potential.Other Places to go:
