MF Janvier ART - Mrs. Bromwell

Winter is here what with the cold and the snow!
Second graders just completed a 'color field' design based on the art of Josef Albers of Germany. Albers painted in the 1950's through the 1970's and was only concerned with color in an abstract way. He explored the way different colors look when placed side by side, overlapping and in layers. The children created their own version of "Homage to the Square" (Albers did a series of these works) and the works are colorful and unique. The only shape used were squares cut from tissue paper which were painted with glue to a background. Other smaller squares were then added with varying sizes, positions of the shapes and various colors create and allow for the different and indiviual works of art. They are now learning about the french painter Claude Monet whose art is all about 'color and light'. They will be painting a beautiful waterlily scene in the next few weeks. I am sure you ill want to frame it and hang it in your home!1st graders are still visiting Egypt and are now studying about Pharaoh Tutankamun. They will be creating something that is golden and that would look like it came from the tomb of King Tut. The children are enjoying the ancient studies of Egypt.
Ms. Rowan's students are working on winter themed projects throughout the season in correlation with Libray studies and Mrs. Francis.
We will be having a Rowan University Art Student Teacher on January 19th through March 3rd. Her name is Amy Ryan and I am sure she will bring some new and exciting lessons to the children. We look forward to meeting and working with her.
