Mrs. Cerino

I love to see the snowflakes
fall softly from the sky,
all different shapes and sizes
are falling in my eyes!

Happy New Year! Wintertime will be a busy time in our class.
The children will continue to work hard in Reading. There are many new words and letter sounds to learn. These skills will help your child to read longer stories. We will continue to encourage fluent reading, instead of word by word reading.
In Math, we will start a chapter on graphing which is always fun for the children. We will continue to work on the addition and subtraction facts and encourage memorization of the facts.
The children will continue to write in their journals and to do four square writing activities. We will have our weekly spelling list to work on as well.
We will discuss winter, and make some wintry crafts. The children will learn about Martin Luther King and his dream. We will also talk about the inauguration of our new President, Barack Obama.

Helpful Hints:
-Please remind your child that they are not allowed to bring "toys" to their desks.
-Please continue to help your child practice our weekly spelling list.
-Please continue to practice the addition and subtraction facts to 12.
-When reading with your child, have them retell what has happened in the story or guess what will happen next. (This will strengthen comprehension skills.
-Please send your child with mittens, hats, etc. as we try to go outside to play if it's not too cold, windy, or snowy.
