Two More Days ‘Till School
By: Leslie KimmelmanI can’t wait to go to school this year,
and now the big day's almost here!
I'll learn to write and count and read--
Only two more days ‘till school.I got new pants and shirts and socks,
a brand-new red and blue lunch box.
I'll paint and sing and dance and play--
Only one more day ‘till school. My hair is washed, my sneakers squeak,
I'm so excited, I can hardly speak!
New things to do, new friends to meet--
Hooray! It's the first day of school!Welcome to our classroom web page! I hope you all had a safe and relaxing summer. I can’t wait to hear about all of the fun and exciting things you did during summer break. I have been busy preparing fun and exciting activities for the new school year. I can't wait to meet each of my new students. I know we will have a wonderful year together!
During the first week of school, we will be doing a lot of fun and exciting "getting to know" you activities. Through these activities, the children will learn more about each other, recognize things they have in common with one another, and begin to grow as a classroom community. We will also be working on establishing rules, routines, and procedures that will help our
classroom run smoothly. All of the supplies that the children will need for the year are ready and waiting on their desks in shiny new pencil cases. Supplies include pencils, erasers, crayons, scissors, glue sticks, folders, assignment pads, and notebooks. It is not necessary for you to send in any supplies with your child, but if you have already purchased supplies that your child would like to use, he or she is more than welcome to bring them to school.
Each night your child will bring home his or her take-home folder. Please check this folder daily for homework and/or important notices. There will be several notices coming home during the first week of school. Please read over all material and sign and return anything that requires a signature. If you have questions about any of the paperwork, please contact me and I will be
happy to help you.In addition to a take-home folder, your child will also bring home an assignment pad each night. Your child’s assignment pad will indicate the homework for each night and any important reminders for the week. Please check and sign your child’s assignment pad every night, and remind your child to bring their assignment pad to school every day. I will be checking the assignment pads each morning, so feel free to communicate with me through a note in the assignment pad. You will start to see the assignment pads coming home during the second week of school.
Our lunch period will begin at 12:50 pm each day. Your child may either bring a lunch to school or purchase one from the cafeteria. If your child purchases lunch, please make sure your child’s name is on his or her lunch money envelope or change purse.
Due to our late lunch period, we will have a mid-morning snack in the classroom each day. Please send in a small, healthy snack for your child to enjoy at this time. Fruit, crackers, pretzels, or granola bars are good choices that are easy for the children to eat at their desks. We have a water fountain in the classroom, so it is not necessary to send in a drink with your child's snack. Our specials will be in the morning each day and are as follows:
Day 1 - Library
Day 2 - Art
Day 3 - Spanish
Day 4 - Gym
Day 5 - MusicPlease make sure your child wears sneakers in order to participate in gym class on Day 1. Also, please make sure your child brings his or her library books to school on Day 3 so that he or she will be able to check
out new books each week.
