Grade One

Although February is our shortest month, it is also a very busy one with many themes and units of study. We will be discussing and celebrating Groundhog Day, Valentine's Day, Abraham Lincoln's birthday, and George Washington's birthday. February is also Black History as well as Dental Health Month. Let's not forget about the 100th Day of School!! What fun we have on that special day!!

Another fun-filled activity for this month is our "Valentine Mailbox" assignment. This "at home" project is due on the 10th of the month. Please encourage your child to use his or her imagination and be very creative. The name should be clearly visible on the mailbox. Good luck and have fun!! I'm sure the children will have many fond memories of these special times. A Valentine list has been sent home. You may start sending in cards the end of next week.

Academically, the children continue to progress nicely. They are reading for meaning and using good fluency. We are already well into our third book!! In Math, we have been working on odd and even numbers and skip counting along with our facts. Many students can now recite even the higher facts from memory!! All of your hard work is really paying off!! As a team, we are taking your child to his or her fullest potential!!
Be on the lookout for report cards, which will be issued on the 10th of the month.

Finally, I would like to thank all of my secret students, once again, for the wonderful surprises you continue to give me. You are so kind and caring. I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness. As always, your continued support is always appreciated. Please let me know if you have a problem or concern. Have a great month!!
