The First Grade students will be celebrating Chinese New Year to finish our study of China. Then we are off to Canada to experience the Winter Olypmics and read some Canadian Indian folklore while we are there. Next the students will travel to Africa to help celebrate Black History. We have a very busy schedule as we learn and read about various traditions throughout the world. Students continue to use library skills to locate books they wish to borrow each week. The second graders will be introduced to the biography section of the library. Second graders will be introduced to biography as they read about Harriet Tubman and her travel to freedom on the underground railroad. Students will also be reading a fictional story of Harriet Tubman through the writing of Faith Ringgold's Aunt Harriet's Underground Railroad In the Sky. They will compare the fictional version to Tubman's biography. Author of the Month
Faith Ringgold
Please make an effort to visit the Franklin Township Public Library each week during the school year. The public library has many interesting programs planned for your child. The children's reading room has an excellent collection of books and is a great source of additional reading material for them.
