Mrs. DiRaddo First Grade

Welcome parents and students to Mrs. DiRaddo's First Grade Class. I am so happy that we will be working together this year. We are going to have so much fun learning new things and making new friends!
The first week of school is always a time of excitement. However, many children may feel nervous and afraid as they prepare to enter a new classroom, with a new teacher and new friends. Therefore, we will spend most of the first week getting to know each other, learning new classroom routines, reviewing Kindergarten skills, and having some fun together.
It is my goal as a teacher to make each and every one of my students feel special when they are in my classroom. I will work hard each day to try and meet each child's individual needs so that he or she reaches their fullest potential.
I am sure many parents may be wondering what your child will need to be prepared on the first day of school. Most of what your child needs to get the year started, I will have waiting for them in the classroom. Each child will recieve two folders (one for homework and one for take home papers), a supply box with crayons, a gluestick, pencils and erasers. I will also have a supply of scissors in the classroom that will be available for the students when needed.
Please be advised that we do have a short snack break in the classroom each day. The parents are expected to send their child to school each day with a small healthy snack. Also, we will be having lunch each day at school. If your child is going to buy lunch please send his/her money in an envelope or small wallet or purse with his/her name on it. I do not collect lunch money in the morning. The children will keep their money in their desk until lunch time. So, having it in a wallet or envelope with their name on it ensures that the money will not get lost. Thank you! If you are packing lunch for your child it is also best to be sure and label their bag with their name so we do not have any mix-ups!
First grade is an exciting time for the students! They will be having a "special" class four days a week. Please be sure to have your child prepared for each class (i.e. they will need their library books on library day, wear sneakers on gym day etc.). Our special schedule is as follows:
Day 1 - Music
Day 2 - Library
Day 3 - Art
Day 4 - The students will complete an activity with me in the clasroom.
Day 5 - Physical EducationThe children will also visit the computer lab with me once a week for a twenty minute lesson.
I hope that you find this inforamtion helpful to you in preparing for the first day of school. Remember to get a good night's sleep the night before and send your child off to school with his or her bookbag and smile. I am so excited to meet you all soon!
