WELCOME TO MR. MAGOLDA'S CLASS 0F 2008-2009

Parents, if there is anything you want me to know related to your child, PLEASE write me a note rather than e-mail. Thanks in advance.

MATH The remainder of 2008 will be on the topic of fractions. This is one of the most difficult areas of study in fifth grade math. Please let me know if your child needs extra help.

Reading* Tests on the stories are usually on Wednesday. You can review the story with your child to make sure they know the events and the vocabulary words. The tests are 10 questions, half on vocabulary.

English* Writing essays will be the main topic for December. The basic rules for writing will be reviewed. You can help by having your child practice neat writing.

Spelling* Students are allowed to work ahead in this subject ONLY. The reason is for them to hopefully become more familiar with the words and their meanings. The bonus words are always reading vocabulary. Tests are usually on Thursday.

Social Studies* The entire year is the study of the United States. We will start with the discovery of our land and continue to the Revolutionary War. The completion of the WORKBOOK assignments is Very important and often used for a test grade.

Science* Tests and homework are both used to obtain grades. End of chapter reviews will always be graded.
