Welcome to our January web page. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. I also wish everyone a wonderful 2009!
Here is an outline of the month ahead:Reading:
We are now in Unit 3 in our reading series. We are looking at how we can all express ourselves in creative, wonderful ways. Remember to read the story of the week at home and study your vocabulary words daily. Reading comprehension and vocabulary tests are held every Friday. Partner reading nightly with your child is always a good way to help with fluency!Grammar/Writing:
In Grammar we will continue to learn about all different types of verbs. There will be a Grammar test every Friday.
In writing we will continue to work with the Four Square technique to help us better plan our writing and improve our organizational skills. We are going to continue to write to picture prompts this month as well. We will also work on Speculative writing. We will use journals to express our thoughts as well.Spelling:
A list of new spelling words will be given out each Monday. Weekly spelling tests are given on Fridays. Spelling homework will be given on Monday and Tuesday nights. Do not forget to study your spelling words nightly.Math:
We will continue Chapter 5 and move into chapter 6, "Multiplication". We will build conceptual understanding of the relationship between multiplication and repeated addition to promote mastery of multiplication with whole numbers. Be sure to complete your homework nightly! Don't forget to practice your facts EVERY NIGHT!!!Health:
In health we will continue to talk about how to take better care of ourselves. We will learn about our body systems and the growth and development of our body. We will also talk about nutrition and the food pyramid.Social Studies:
Communities is our theme for the school year. We will be learning about communities near and far. We will also be keeping up with the current events in our country and world.Science:
We are going to begin learning about Physical Science. This month we will learn about matter and how it changes. WE will learn what objects are made of, what physical changes are, and what chemical changes are!Penmanship:
Students are excited about learning cursive writing! We will continue with the lower case letters. The students are doing great! Make sure you practice your stokes at home!
ASSIGNMENT BOOK AND FOLDER:
Please review your child's homework folder and assignment book each day for assignments, projects, and test dates. Checking and signing on a daily basis is helpful. Use this book as a means of communication with me. Most importantly, just talk to your child and ask them how their day was! The little things you do make a difference. Thank you so much for your continued support. The little things mean a lot!
