Mrs. Leary's Third Grade Class

Welcome to our June Web Page. I want to thank everyone for having your children here throughout NJ ASK testing week. It was a huge help to have most of the students here and on time. I am so proud of how hard they worked. I am sure that they all did a great job!
It is hard to believe that the year is almost over. It has been a great year. I want to thank you all for your continuous support and helping to make this year so pleasurable.
I hope everyone has a safe, happy, and relaxing summer!

Here is an outline of the month ahead:

Reading:
We will finish with our literature circles. Literature Circles are a great way to get the children more involved in groups and talking about the novel that they are reading with their peers. Each student will have a job weekly which they are responsible for within their groups. We are also doing various comprehension and writing activities to go along with the chapters we are reading throughout the week. We will finish the novel “The Mouse and the Motorcycle”. Vocabulary tests will be held every Friday. Partner reading nightly with your child is always a good way to help with fluency!

Grammar/Writing:
In grammar, we will learn about all different types of Adverbs. There will be a grammar test every Friday.
In writing, we will work with the Four Square technique to help us better plan our writing and improve our organizational skills. We will use the six traits of writing as well. We will continue writing to speculative prompts. I am very pleased with the students’ progression as we continue to write this way. Poem prompts will also be continued this month. We will also continue to use journals daily to express our thoughts.

Spelling:
A list of new spelling words will be given out each Monday. Weekly spelling tests are given on Fridays. Spelling homework will be given on Monday and Tuesday nights. Do not forget to study your spelling words nightly.

Math:
We will continue practicing our multiplication and division facts. We will begin long division, and review multi-digit multiplication. We will also continue to work with problem solving strategies. Be sure to complete your math homework nightly! Don't forget to practice your facts each day in the summer! We need to know all of them in order to be ready for fourth grade!

Health:
We will finish with the unit that looks at our how we can take better care of ourselves. We will learn about our body systems and the growth and development of our body! We will also talk about nutrition and the food pyramid.

Social Studies:
We will continue to review looking at maps. We will take a closer look at landforms and continents.

Science:
This month we will be looking and making our own inventions. We will investigate how to invent various things, and work on some inventions of our own with Mrs. Busler’s class!

Penmanship:
Students are always excited about learning cursive writing! We will begin with capital letters! Make sure you practice your stokes at home!

ASSIGNMENT BOOK AND FOLDER:
Please review your child's homework folder and assignment book each day for assignments, projects, and test dates. Checking and signing on a daily basis is helpful. Use this book as a means of communication with me. Most importantly, just talk to your child and ask them how their day was! The little things you do make a difference. Thank you so much for your continued support. The little things mean a lot
