Mr. Gant's May Webpage

Hello Parents,

May is here and so is the beautiful weather. Like you, I am amazed how fast time goes by. This year has been another wonderful experience for me, and I trust your child feels the same way.

We have been and will continue to prepare for the NJ ASK test. The stories of the week have been temporaily been put on hold. They will resume the week after testing. The NJ ASK test will start on Monday, May 10 and continue through Thursday, May 14. The first two days will be Language Art testing, the third and fourth will be Math. Please continue to make sure your child is well rested for the start of the school day.

Congratualtions to the entire class! Every student has finished the Multiplication Grand Prix. In doing so they passed every multiplication quiz from 1-12. WAY TO GO! The students were rewarded with a chicken wing party, along with some delicious pizza.

When testing is over, this is what the students will be learning:

MATH: We will work more on dividing with remainders, fractions, and multiplying two digit numbers. As the year wraps up, we will also review all skills taught throughout the year by working in math centers.

Language Arts: Stories of the week will resume after testing. That means there will be weekly spelling words and new grammar skills. Students will continue to reinforce the Traits of Writing. We are currently orally reading Mr. Nibbles. Their oral reading is getting better and better. I will soon assign more oral reading to be done at home.

Social Studies: We are going to enjoy reading about the history of America's earliest communities. Among the topics of discussion will be Native Indians, explorers, and the founding of Jamestown!

Science: In chapter 3 we will explore forms of energy. Topics will include forms of energy, how matter is heated, how light travels, and electricity.
