Miss McCloskey's Third Grade Class
Where we are all learners!

Welcome to Miss McCloskey's class website!

The month of December was a busy time in our classroom as we worked on our Holidays Around the World project! The students did a wonderful job researching and presenting their holidays and we all enjoyed the delicious buffet! We also had our pizza party, which we won for bringing in over 100 food items for the food drive during November! December was also a special month because Mrs. Colonna came in for a visit and read, "The Polar Express" while we listened in our bathrobes and slippers and drank "hot" chocolate.

I hope everyone has enjoyed the break and spent time relaxing and with your family! Now that the new year is here it is time to get back to work! Look below to see what is in store for the month of January!

We will be continuing the third reading unit, "Be Creative!" We will be reading fiction and nonfiction stories about new ideas and creative ways to be your own person. We will read the story during the week, but on Thursday nights you should reread the story in order to prepare for the test on Friday. You should also be studying the vocabulary words that go along with the story. Reading comprehension and vocabulary tests are always on Friday!

In Grammar we will continue to explore verbs. The students will be learning about action verbs, tenses, and combining sentences with verbs. As we have done in the past the grammar test will be every Friday. Please make sure you are reviewing the concepts throughout the week.

Please check your child's folder every Monday for the week's spelling words. Weekly spelling tests will be given on Fridays. Do not forget to study your words every night!

In math we have just started multiplication! The students are very excited about this and they have already learned their 0, 1, 2, and 5 times tables all the way up to 12! Please practice these basic multiplication facts at home!

We are still working on learning our lowercase cursive letters! We began by learning the strokes that are involved. Now we have moved on to the letters i, t, u, w, e, and l. The students are doing a great job with the formation of the letters, but it's always a good idea to be practicing handwriting at home!

Please make sure your child's homework folder and assignment book are making the journey to and from home everyday! It's always a good idea for you to check their homework folder and assignment book, and help them understand the importance of homework and completing it. Please also be sure to sign your child's assignment book every night!

Please never hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns; I am here to help!
