Welcome to the Art Studio! February! 2012
In both 3rd and 4th grade, we are learning about Japan. Japanese Art greatly influenced such famous artists like Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet. In fourth grade, we took a closer look at Japanese Kabuki Theater and how the artists would express emotion in a live performance. Costumes, props, music, dance, makeup, and masks would help the artists on stage as they perform. We took pre-formed paper masks and design our own Kabuki mask using symmetry, design, and emotion.In third grade, students also learned about different forms of Japanese art and created paper fans using nature symbols in a beautiful repeated pattern. Final projects were colored with crayon and painted with watercolors showing a crayon resist technique. As we start Black History Month, students will learn about some African American Painters like Horace Pippin, Jacob Lawrence, and Henry Tanner. We will learn how to be Art Detectives and compare and contrast these painters' works of Art. What colors and objects do you see? How did the artist express and idea or feeling? Does anything in the painting remind you of something in your life? ART CLUB NEWS- New Art Club members don't forget to bring your sketch books to our meeting every week.
