Mrs. Niewoehner's 5th grade class at Main Road School in Franklin Twp. recently held their annual Food Drive.  In relation to a unit of study on Nutrition, students sponsored and advertised for the drive around the school, collected the food from classrooms daily, and sorted the food for donations to 2 local food pantries.  The New Life in Christ Ministries in Malaga and The Church of the Nativity in Franklinville will receive the donations.  Over 1000 food items were collected!

Students in Mrs. Hayden’s 6th Grade Social Studies class of Main Road School recently made “Futuristic Machines” in an effort to pose solutions to modern issues troubling the world today.  After exploring the impact of the Industrial Revolution, students developed their own innovations that may one day impact the world as much the inventions in which they have studied.

Mrs. Colleen Sharkey, a second grade teacher at the Mary F. Janvier School in Franklin Township, was recently named her school’s Teacher of the Year as well as the Township of Franklin’s School District Teacher of the Year.  She was selected for the twin honors because of effective instructional techniques and methods, establishment of productive classroom climate and rapport with students as well as for developing feelings of self-worth and love of learning in her students.  Mrs. Sharkey received a total of $1,000 from the Board of Education for her to utilize for educational purposes and attended a recognition program and luncheon held at GCIT earlier in the spring.  She is pictured delivering a read aloud lesson to her children.
