Dear Parents/Guardians,

All fifth and sixth grade students will be administered the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJ ASK) from May 6—May 9.

The test will consist of two days of language arts literacy testing and two days of mathematics testing.  This assessment is the means used by the State of New Jersey to access adequate yearly progress (AYP) per the No Child Left Behind regulations.  The results of this test will be used to assist in providing an appropriate educational program for your child.

I would strongly encourage all parents to review the NJASK pamphlet and complete the sample problems that were previously distributed to all students.

Please be advised that there are specific state guidelines that all schools must adhere to during NJ ASK testing.  Please do not schedule doctor or dentist appointments during the testing days, as we are not permitted to interrupt testing for late arrivals or early dismissals.  On the day of testing, your child will not be allowed to have electronic devices (cell phone, iPod, camera, etc.)

Being caught with an electronic device will result in their immediate removal from the testing room and their test booklet will be voided.

We respectfully request that you ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a nutritious breakfast each day of testing.  All students need to arrive at school on time as the testing begins first thing in the morning.

As always, we appreciate your cooperation in making this a positive experience for the students.
