Happy New Year to everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and brought in 2009 with cheer! Now that it's the new year, we have many exciting things to look forward to. Also, we will welcome our student teacher Mrs. Olsen to our team! Mrs. Olsen will be with us until May, and we are looking forward to learning each and every day with her!
Here is an outline of each subject this month:
READING
We are now into Unit Three! Make sure to re-read the stories at home to prepare for the weekly comprehension and vocabulary tests each Friday. Also, practice oral reading to improve your fluency!GRAMMAR/WRITING
Our current grammar unit focuses on nouns and pronouns. There will be a grammar quiz each Friday. In writing we will learn how to add "SPICE" to our writing and become great writers! We will also use journals to get those creative juices flowing!SPELLING
New spelling words will be given out at the beginning of each week. Make sure to study these words each night to prepare for the test on Friday!
MATH
We are currently working with time, graphs, and data. Also, we will start our times tables, so make sure to study your facts each night! Be sure to complete all homework and feel free to bring your book home to study.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Our theme this year is Communities. We will learn all about who and what makes up a community, and ways that they have changed over the years.
SCIENCE
We are now starting our science unit on weather! We will learn many interesting things about clouds, the water cycle, and storms!
HEALTH
Throughout the year we will study all about the human body. Also we will learn how to have good character by following the Character Counts program. Be sure to show good character each day to your teammates and teachers.PENMANSHIP
This year we will learn all of our cursive letters and their connections in words. We will begin with all of the lowercase letters. Continue to practice your letters each day to make sure your cursive is nice and neat!PARENTS:
Please remember to review your child's homework assignment book and folder each night. This is the best way to keep on top of assignments, tests, and projects. PLEASE sign the book when your child has completed all of his or her homework. There is always something that can be done at home! Math facts can be reviewed or books can be read! You can also help your child be more successful by helping them keep their folders organized, pencils sharpened, and schoolbags packed. Most importantly, just talk to your child and ask them about their day! These little things really do make a difference! Thanks for your continued support!
