Reading:Here a few helpful hints to help your child with reading at home. While reading a story with your child have him or her do the following.
*Prior to reading have them take a picture walk through the book and read the title, author, and illustrator of the story to help make predictions about the story.
*Take time to read to your child for 10-15 minutes each night.
*Have your child read to you.
*Partner Reading is always a fun way for you and your child to read together. You and your child may take turns reading a page or maybe even just a paragraph. Sometimes a whole page can be overwhelming for a young reader.
*Visit the local Library - check out books on topics of interest, but have it be a book they can read independently.Reading Homework:
*Each week your child is responsible for learning 5-6 reading words. Please practice these words each night!!! They are tested on these words every Friday.*Each week your child will be responsible for reading a leveled book and doing a mini book report. This will be sent home on Monday and due on Thursday. The child must return the book and mini book report in the folder provided.
Math: Practice your basic math facts every night.
Spelling: Please study your spelling words every night. The list will be sent home on Monday and be tested on Friday of each week.
Spelling Homework:
Monday - 5 times each
Tuesday - ABC order
Wednesday - Sentences
Thursday - Study
Friday - Test Day!!!Science - Weather will be our unit of study this marking period.
Health - We will learn about the Human Body throughout the school year.
Social Studies - We will learn about communities and we will also be building our own community as a class project.
