Mrs. LoCicero's Class
![]()

I'm happy to have Mrs. Rissling and Mrs. Ellen working with me this year as my teacher assistants. They are a valuable part of our class.Homework Policy:
Homework is an important part of your child's school experience. The purpose of homework is to give students a chance to practice what they have learned in school. It is important that parents check their child's homework assignment books. This book is designed to help you and your child keep track of the assignments given for that particular day. Each day homework assignments and important papers and notes will be put into a folder to be delivered to you. The homework folder needs to be carried to and from school each day.Weekly Work Envelope:
On Friday of each week your child's graded assignments, test, and quizzes will be sent home in an envelope. Please take a few moments to look over these papers to see how your child is doing. You may keep the graded papers at home. Please sign and return to envelope with any comments you may have. I will respond to any comments by writing a note in your child's assignment book or with a phone call if necessary.Reading:
I'm excited to be using the Wilson Reading Program which teaches students to how to fluently and accurately decode words. The instruction for this program is very interactive and multisensory. It is very important to practice the wordlist and sentence pages each night for homework. In addition to this program, we will be reading literature or chapter books for enjoyment and listening comprehension. While reading literature based books we will focus on building vocabulary and comprehension skills.Spelling:
The words for spelling are coming directly from our reading lessons for the week.Grammar:
This year our focus in grammar will be to develope complete sentences with the proper sentence structure, capitalization, and puncuation. In addition, the students will begin writing short stories and friendly letters to our pen-pals in Mrs. Jone's class. We will also continue to work with parts of speech.Math:
Our focus in math for the third marking period will be learning our multiplication facts!! We will continue to have a basic math facts quiz every Friday. Please practice these basic facts with your child each night!!Social Studies:
Our focus in Social Studies this year will be to learn about the various regions within the United States. In unit 1 we will learn about the varied landforms and climates within each of the different regions. We will also learn about American customs that unite the Americans. We will discuss how the Americans are descendants of the American Indians and immigrants from around the world.
Health:
Our focus for the this marking period will be the human body systems.Science:
Our focus in science will be to learn how earthquakes, volcanoes, and water change the earth's surface.
