Miss Lovelace
Grade 3 Resource Room

Highlights: Thank you for your generous holiday gifts. As the new year begins, I look forward to working with you to make the most of the rest of the school year. Together we can make this a great school year for your child.
Grade 3 Language Arts:During the month of January, we will investigate verbs and combining verbs in sentences. We will continue to use the Four Square method to develop and build on writing skills. Weekly tests will be given on Fridays in Reading, Grammar, and Spelling. In addition to our weekly spelling list of 15 words,we will also learn to write our full names and addresses and will be required to write them on every weekly spelling test. We will be learning to spell five high frequency words each week. These additional five words will be tested each week in dictation sentences. Please remember that the top 100 most frequently used words are always posted above the chalkboard for the children to refer to.

Math: We will spend the first few minutes of each lesson memorizing basic subtraction facts. Chapter 4 focuses on reading clocks, calendars, and a variety of charts and graphs. When working on word problems, students are required to write a number sentence to show how they got the answer, and may then use a calculator to find the answer. However, calculators are not used when completing basic computation problems. Homework will be assigned almost every night.
