Mrs. Walker's Third Grade Class Where Learning Is Fun
![]()
Happy New Year! Thank you to everyone who helped make our Christmas breakfast so much fun. The children had a great time! Also, a great big thank you for all the beautiful Christmas gifts. You were much too generous.
READING:
This month we will begin working in Unit 3 in our reading series. This unit's theme is "Be Creative." We will be exploring stories that take us far into our imagination and encourage us to express ourselves in creative ways. Each night the students will have a mini-book to read. Partner reading with Mom or Dad is always a good way to improve fluency. Remember to practice new vocabulary words each day so Friday's vocabulary test will be a breeze!!
GRAMMAR:
Throughout the second unit we will study the proper usage of all types of verbs. We will use these skills to help improve our daily writing. We will also be practicing the six traits of good writing. Remind your children to use these traits to put a little "SPICE" in their writing pieces.
SPELLING:
Remember to study, and practice using spelling list words each week. Because we all learn in different ways, practice the method that works best for you. A spelling test will be given each Friday. All 100's will be displayed in "Our Sea of Good Work" for everyone to see!
MATH:
Chapter 4 has us working on Time and Graphing. Problem solving is also a big part of every lesson. Our daily homework word problems are very important. These are the types of problems that will be showing up on the ASK test in the spring. Also begin to spend time each night drilling and practicing multiplication facts for speed and accuracy.
HEALTH:
This year our Health program will include learning about the human body. We will learn all about the different body systems and what they do.SOCIAL STUDIES:
Communities is our theme for the school year. We'll be learning about communities in our country, and around the world. Map skills are also a part of our weekly lessons. This month we will also be learning about the many contributions of Martin Luther King Jr.
SCIENCE:
Our next area of study takes us into the amazing world of animals. Activities and experiments will make this unit exciting.PENMANSHIP:
We are all excited about learning cursive writing! We'll begin with the lower case letters and their connections in words. Remember to practice your letters each and every day.Parents:
Please review your child's homework folder and assignment sheet each day for assignments, projects, and test dates. Help your child by checking to make sure their homework is completed, their pencils are sharpened, and all their books and supplies are in their schoolbags. Please sign your child's assignment sheet when all homework has been completed and return it to school. These little things really do make a difference! You may also use this sheet as means of communication with me. Thank you in advance for your continued support!Other Places to go:
