Mrs. Smith's Class

This month -- January
Math l period- Math 2

In chapter 4 we will be learning to collect data and display that day in the form of various graphs. (line, histograms, stem/leaf etc.) We will read and make many of these graphs.
Students are to write asssignment in their agenda/assignment book daily. This is one important part of 5th grade Responsibility we are trying to encourage.
Homework is given on a regular basis and expected to be completed on time in order to receive the intended benefit. Students have been meeting this goal and hopefully will continue to do so. I look forward to a very enjoyable and productive year.

Science:
In the Earth science section of our text book, we will continue to learn about the earth-- earth's resources- water and land- and how they can be protected.
Lesson wksts are given after each lesson; study guides are given; and a chapter review is done before each test. Please study vocabulary, main ideas at the end of the chapter and the
study guide that is provided. If the student does this, you will see a much improved test grade.

Social Studies:
In chapter 4, we will identify the contributions of significant individuals during the period of early exploration and colonization of the Americas

Health:
In our new text book, we are learning about wellness and healthful behaviors. Again worksheet follow each lesson that reinforces that lessons concepts.
For this month, we will also learn about the skeletal system, ande names of many of the large bones just in time for Halloween.

D.A.R.E.
We have 5 classes with "Ken" Det. Gonzalas this month. After our first class I think the students were excited and impressed as well. Five more class will be taught before the holiday break in Dec. The D.A.R.E. program will be Feb. 5 at Delsea High School Auditorium.
