Pumpkin Painting at Reutter School
Mrs. Marinaro’s students enjoyed getting creative this week with a fun pumpkin painting activity. Using bright paints and big imaginations, students designed their own unique pumpkins to celebrate the fall season. This hands-on project encouraged creativity, focus, and artistic expression, all while bringing a touch of autumn spirit to our classroom. We loved seeing their personalities shine through each colorful creation!

Deep Dive into Data: Reutter Faculty Analyzes Performance for Growth
During the recent October Faculty Meeting, Reutter School teachers engaged in an analytical session, taking a further dive into the academic performance data collected during the 2024-2025 Academic Year. Under the direction of Ms. Doldan, Supervisor for Curriculum and Instruction, faculty members worked collaboratively to dissect the results. This data analysis allowed departments to precisely identify specific academic standards where students demonstrated exceptional proficiency, as well as areas where further growth is needed. By pinpointing these strengths and opportunities, Reutter School is ensuring a focused and responsive approach to teaching. Teachers will now use this invaluable, granular data to directly inform and adjust their instructional strategies for the present academic year, tailoring their lessons to maximize student achievement across all subjects.

Reutter Sixth Graders Fuse ELA and Science Skills for Cross-Curricular Learning
Sixth-grade science classes at Reutter School, led by teachers Ms. Reim and Mrs. Zemaitatis, recently implemented an innovative unit that successfully integrated crucial reading and writing strategies from their ELA curriculum. Students actively used their knowledge of the reading strategy "Author Says, Author Does" to practice cloze reading techniques while engaging with informational science texts. This exercise significantly boosted their reading comprehension of complex scientific content by training them to focus on the author's purpose and specific textual functions.
In a related life science unit on animal behaviors, students practiced the Claim-Evidence-Research/Scientific Principle-Conclusion (CER) response format. The core of the lesson required students to critically analyze evidence from their readings and then construct a well-supported argument about the "best" animal parent behavior, connecting their conclusions to a foundational scientific principle. This rigorous activity not only reinforced scientific reasoning but also directly prepared the students to articulate and defend their positions during a Socratic seminar later in the week, showcasing a seamless and powerful connection between literacy and science instruction.

Reutter School students had an inspiring start to their annual Week of Respect activities on Friday, October 3, with a special assembly featuring former Philadelphia Eagle Barrett Brooks. The school celebrated the occasion with a special Philadelphia Eagles Spirit Day. Mr. Brooks shared a powerful and inspirational message, speaking to students about the essential values of teamwork, perseverance, and making positive choices. Principal Mr. Theodore Peters facilitated the assembly by conducting an on-stage "interview" with Mr. Brooks, leading a dynamic conversation about motivation and overcoming obstacles. The event successfully connected professional achievement with personal character, setting a high-energy, positive tone for the upcoming Week of Respect.

This creative lesson allowed them to see how varying densities affect interactions and movement, providing a tangible way to understand a recurring scientific theme.
